ANN7, eNCA and SABC News all carried Official Opposition leader Helen Zille casting her ballot in Rondebosch at just after 9am.Following this, eNCA's Paula Chowles got the first interview with her just after she cast her ballot. The other channels initially broadcast this part with silence but after realising Paula would be asking quite a few questions, decided to just listen in. She did go on, however, to speak to representitives of all three channels.
All seemed to go well but at 09:18, SABC News' male co anchor (the afrikaans 7pm anchor) noted that Helen had made a mistake by throwing both ballots in one box. They immediately brought their on air analyst on what this means, but he then revealed that it is okay as it will be sorted when it is counted. That was a perfect moment of the right guest being there at the right time as they were discussing electoral processes and possible mistakes that could be made.
