eNCA abruptly cancels Meet the Media

As quickly as it came, it is now gone. eNCA has abruptly canceled the excellent Meet the Media with Eusebius McKaiser.

The show, which took to the air on July 3rd this year, was launched in response to then SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, canceling all SABC programming analysing the South African media landscape.

Not even Mckaiser knows exactly why the show was cancelled. He responded to a tweet with, "Sorry guys I'm as much in the dark as you. Thanks for tuning in. @AntonHarber [eNCA editor in chief] might explain to you."

In a statement about the show's cancellation, eNCA says the show has "ended its current season on eNCA. In the new year, eNCA will be exploring new concepts for their programming to align with 2017's political calendar. eNCA looks forward to working with Eusebius on new projects in 2017"

These new projects the channel aims to launch will be announced towards the end of February.

eNCA announces new media show with Eusebius Mckaiser

After 8 years on the air, eNCA is finally launching a show analysing the local news media.

The often controversial Eusebius Mckaiser joins the channel to host the weekly show, titled ''Meet the Media With Eusebius Mckaiser," which will be broadcast live every Sunday morning at 10am.

The launch of the show comes hot on the heels of the SABC's COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, swiftly cancelling all the public broadcaster's programming that featured editors from external media houses.

Editors and journalists from news organisations from across South Africa will be invited to give insight into their editorial decisions and the week’s main stories

“We want to show how the sausage is made, for better or for worse”, said eNCA Editor-in-Chief Anton Harber.

“This show will push journalists to explain what lies behind the decisions they make that affect others – in other words, to practice the transparency they preach to others. I hope that will help people understand better what we do. I think it will be fascinating.”

“I am delighted to be joining eNCA because it is an excellent platform for unashamedly celebrating what works in our country and analyse what's going awry. I look forward to drilling down into the top stories in the media weekly, sparking debate and having plenty of on-screen fun at the same time,” said Mckaiser.

When it comes to political analysts, Mckaiser is among the country's elite. He has hosted radio shows and written for various local and international publications, including the New York Times.

It us uncertain how this new show launch will affect longrunning 'media' show (It's more about advertising), Maggs on Media, which currently airs at 10:30am.

SABC News Channel launches 'On The Record' with Vuyo Mvoko

"And a very warm welcome to the very first episode of our new show, On the Record." Those were the first words of SABC News' Contributing Editor, Vuyo Mvoko, welcoming viewers to his new show this past Monday night, January 11th.

On The Record aims to go beyond the day's headlines to bring viewers a select few stories that viewers simply have to know, debates, as well as interviews and profiles with people viewers ought to know.

The show has a decent format: start with a few news stories with Mvoko drawing a narrative in between links as well as providing commentary, none of which seems to be scrolling on a teleprompter. Not being a traditional news bulletin, the program has the luxury to linger longer on certain news stories, creating insight viewers would otherwise not have received during a regular bulletin.

After the first segment details the main news story of the day, the second segment features the show's focus story of the day, which is something discussed in with on air guests. The premiere episode featured a simply explosive debate around the recent race issues experienced in the country. It featured author, Eusebius McKaizer (Run, Racist, Run), rights activist, Ernst Roets (Afriforum)as well as Andile Mgxithama (Black First, Land First).

Following the lengthy debate, the premiere episode aired an interview with the current ANC Youth League President.

With the launch of On The Record, Your World gets cut down to only two hours, starting now at 10pm. Both shows use the same studio though.

The show is also not Mvoko's first attempt at a show on the channel as he has previously experimented with different formats in the past.

One The Record with anchor Vuyo Mvoko airs weekdays from 9pm to 10pm on SABC News Channel (DStv 404).
