The Gauteng Sports Awards took place this past Sunday, October 11th, with some sports broadcasters winning big.
Like I predicted, Thomas Mlambo's Sports@10 won the Sports Programme of the Year category, beating out Thursday Night Live with Marawa (Supersport), The Sports Network with Andrew Hope (University of Johannesburg) and GameOn! (ANN7). Sport@10 was created a few years ago as Mlambo's own project, airing initially on a Thursday night before seeing the format refined to its now award winnng state and moved to Wednesday.
Mahreen Chenia of ANN7 took home the award of Sports Journalist of the Year, beating Mlambo and Thabiso Mosia (Power FM). Over the last day she has taken to to Twitter to thank all those that supported her. Despite hosting the least watched/listened to sprts show in the category, 'GameOn!' and Chenia have consistently been called one of the best sports shows around, which has now been confirmed by the award.
With so many ANN7 talents leaving the channel as soon as something better comes along, how long do you think it will be before Mahreen Chenia is snapped up by one of the bigger broadcasters?

Back Again (Sighs): 'GameOn!' Back on the ANN7 Schedule
ANN7 has once again re added GameOn!, the channel's sports bulletin, back to its schedule.
This follows a few weeks after the show presented by Mahreen Chenia was dropped from the schedule a few weeks ago, when the channel tweaked their prime time schedule.
Well that schedule has been re tweaked, again (because apparently viewers will just eat whatever you feed them whenever you decide to feed it to them), with the show now back on at 6:30pm and repeated at 10:30pm.
Changes in this 'season' of GameOn! (because the channel thinks its a channel that airs episodic tv shows) include a slightly tweaked graphics pack (the only thing that changes as much as the schedule with this channel is its graphics and not anything with actual journalism, unfortunately), now airing completely from the interview section of the studio (which now has two portable monitors) and, more importantly, now airing from Monday to Friday, whereas in the past it only aired Tuesday through Thursday.
If you into sports news, viewers tend to say this show is quite well done, so check it out.

ANN7 Tweaks Late Night Schedule
ANN7, DStv 405, has since the start of this week tweaked their late night broadcast schedule.
The 9:30pm straight news bulletin with Gladys Sithole has been shelved, replaced with a rerun of the day's Buzz @ANN7 with Liezle Wilson, which is an entertainment show that premieres at 2:30pm (and actually deserves a much better timeslot considering that the show has consistently been able to secure A-list stars as guests).
With one news bulletin lost, another is gained, as the longrunning 10:30pm rerun of Total Football (Mondays and Fridays) and Gameon! (Tuesday-Thursday) has been replaced by a live news bulletin anchored by reality star Lauren Jenae.
The 11pm hour of news is no longer using the "Night Cap" brand, though it is essentially the same content.
