Comedy Central Africa shifts the Daily Show

Comedy Central Africa (DStv 122) has announced that from January 4th,  it is shifting The Daily Show with Trevor Noah's timeslot from 9pm to 9:55pm.

The show has been airing at 9pm since Trevor Noah took over as host. Prior to that the late night chat show was broadcast in actual late night (after 11pm).

Shifting the show, which takes way too many production breaks compared to similar late night shows,  means that Comedy Central Africa can now put together a stronger prime-time lineup instead of having to dedicate 9pm, the heart of prime time, to one show daily.

Comedy Central adds local satirical news show to schedule

Comedy Central Africa (DStv 122) today announced the launch of Comedy Central News (CCN, to to be confused with CNN, or is it to be confused?), the channel's latest local project.

Comedy Central News will be a satirical news programme covering every possible hot topic from sports to pop culture, American politics and local news.

The programme is produced by the same company behind Starsat's critically acclaimed ZANews: Puppet Nation, Both Worlds. It will be anchored by comedian, Sne Dladla.

CCN is not South Africa's first satirical news show. There is the aforementioned ZANews, and then there was Late Night News with Loyiso Gola which ran for eight seasons on eNCA.

Comedy Central News will also not be the first Comedy Central News in the world. The brand (which includes the name and format) has been running in different European countries, like the Netherlands, for a while now.

CCN premieres on Comedy Central Africa (DStv 122) on October 3rd at 9pm, complementing the channel's main American satirical news programme, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, which airs Tuesday through Friday at that same time.

eNCA interviews Trevor Noah

eNCA this weekend will be featuring an in-depth interview with Trevor Noah, the first interview of its kind since Noah took the reigns of Comedy Central's The Daily Show.

eNCA senior anchor, Jeremy Maggs, flew to New York City to interview Noah at The Daily Show's New York Studio.

The wide-ranging interview, titled as if it is a standup comedy special, "Trevor Noah: Unplugged and Plugged In," covers topics including Noah's pressure to succeed and what it is like covering American politics at this strange point in time.

"For me being able to pay the rent doing comedy in South Africa, that means I'd succeeded and now successfully touring the country, that means I've succeeded and if I tried to go international and I failed, I wouldn't call it a failure of myself," says Noah.

The interview is also available on eNCA's website and will be featured on the channel throughout the weekend.

Trevor Noah Joining The Daily Show

South African comedian, Trevor Noah, will be joining the cast of Comedy Central's late night talks show, The Daily Show, which is hosted by comedian Jon Stewart.

Noah's official role as part of "The Best F*&#ing News Team Ever!"(that is what they refer to themselves as) will be Contributor, beginning in December.

Noah is not completely unknown to the American late night comedy scene. He previously appeared on the Tonight Show, then hosted by Jay Leno, back in 2012.

He has also recently been setting the British comedy circuit ablaze, with appearances on shows like Live at the Apollo, seen in SA on BBC Entertainment (DStv 120).

He himself also hosted a "late night" talk show, though it aired in early primetime, on Mnet, Tonight with Trevor Noah, which moved to Mzansi Magic for its second season.

The Daily Show airs on Comedy Central (DStv 122) Tuesday to Friday evenings at 23:50.
