DStv Financial Results (including NEW channels)

Earlier today Naspers, DStv's parent company held their presentation of financial results. Here are some of the highlights that has to do with its PayTV platform, DStv.
  • They added 1.3 million new subscribers, 43% of which are Compact subscribers.
  • PVR users increased by 15% to 1.1million, largely due to the launch of their new Explora decoder.
  • GOtv, the group's Digitial Terrestrial Television platform that launched in many African countries now boasts more than 817 000 subscribers, an increase of over 100% vs a year earlier.
  • That same platform is the source of a great amount of expenditure of the firm as they continue expanding it into more countries and cities/towns.
  • This, along with expanded investment in original/local content (on channels like MzaniMagic and AfricaMagic) has reduced profit margins to 23%
  • They also plan to 'aggressively' expand investment in their online distribution platforms like Box Office and DStv Catchup.
  • Their satellite transponder lease on the new Intelsat 20 that went live in 2012 was a 15 year deal at a rate of approximately $42 million per year.
  • DStv Premium subscribers continue to shrink in numbers, down to only 28% of total subscribers from 34% the prior year. DStv Compact subscribers remained steady at 37% while other lower end subscribers now account for 35% of the subscriber base, up from 29% in the year before
The best thing a television fan can look out for in their Financial Results is the quiet addition of the soon to launch channels on the platform. In previous years, the expansion of the MNet Movies stable of channels were hinted at when the logo of MNet Movies Comedy was in the group of channel logos in the statements. Look below if you can spot any soon to launch channels that are not yet on the DStv platform (hint: there are 2):
